Il 7 dicembre 2018, ore 2.30 italiane, si sono tenuti i The Game Awards 2018, cerimonia di premiazione a cadenza annuale dedicata al mondo dei videogiochi. L’edizione di quest’anno si è svolta presso il Microsoft Theater situato nella città di Los Angeles, negli Stati Uniti.
A differenza dello scorso anno, durante l’edizione del 2018 non c’è stato un predominio netto di Nintendo, che l’annata passata aveva sorpreso tutti positivamente con due autentici capolavori per Nintendo Switch, ovvero The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild e Super Mario Odyssey. Quest’anno invece gli unici giochi targati grande N arrivati tra i finalisti in più categorie sono stati Octopath Traveler e Mario Tennis Aces, ma senza vincere alcun premio.
I The Game Awards 2018 hanno confermato ulteriormente il grande successo di Red Dead Redemption II, il quale si è portato a casa ben 4 premi, ma non quello più importante: il trofeo come Gioco dell’Anno è andato infatti a una grande esclusiva di PlayStation 4: God of War.
